Hollinsend Methodist CC won the toss and of course elected to bat first on what was set to be another hot summer’s afternoon in the beautiful surroundings of Clumber Park.
Zak Berridge and Ewan Cox were chosen to open the bowling, and they both performed really well but without any luck in their first spells. After the first ten overs, the opposition were 30 without loss. Our first change bowlers, Brandon Mapp (7 overs 3-14) and Michael Edwards (5 overs 0-31), both bowled brilliantly – well done Brandon on the 3 fer! Zak (10 overs 1-33) & Ewan (10 overs 4-31) came back on at the death and again both bowled very well, managing to pick up vital wickets. Throughout the innings, Jake Tomlinson was switched on and fielded exceptionally – well done Jake!
Hollinsend Methodist CC posted 193-9 off of their 40 overs, and we thought this to be a challenging score.
Our batting response opened with James Davies (3) and Evan Bownes (10), but James fell early on. Brandon Mapp (33) came in at number 3 and batted really well in partnership with Evan, until Evan was bowled for a gritty 10. In at number 4, Ewan Cox (130*) put on 65 runs with Brandon and together they turned the game around. Following Brandon being run out, Jake Tomlinson (10) took to the crease and stayed out in the middle for about an hour before being dismissed. Jake showed great determination throughout and his great effort was vital for the team. In the 33rd over, we were able to get over the line, with thanks to Ewan hitting 5 consecutive sixes to score his century.
Thank you to everybody that played today, sacrificing watching England’s first ‘Euro 2020’ fixture to get this game on!
The Sunday XI hope that their unbeaten status can continue into next week as they travel away to Bawtry CC.
