The Sunday XI go unbeaten after their first two matches.

The Sunday XI made it two wins out of two today in an extremely comprehensive 306 run victory against Retford CC.

Winning the toss, we decided to bat first. James Davies and Ben Tomlinson opened, batting together very well before Ben fell in the 25th over for 63 - an excellent knock. At this point, we were 160/1. Simon Bingham went in at 3 and scored a quality 63* off of 48 balls, batting really well with James. Eventually, James fell in the 34th over for a fantastic 133 runs (his first, but certainly not his last hundred - congratulations, great effort). Debutant Ewan Cox then took his place at the crease, and continued with the quick scoring from the off by smashing a low, straight 6 first ball. He went on to score 66* from 16 balls, including six consecutive sixes (one of which sailed over the pavilion and into the fence behind)!
In the end, CPCC posted a huge target for Retford to chase - finishing at 360-2 from the 40 overs.

Up & coming Junior, Zak Berridge, opened our bowling attack, performing well but without luck (4 overs, 0-8). Simon Dean opened with experience from the opposite, pavilion end & managed to pick up 3 wickets from his 7 over spell, one of which was a great, outstretched caught & bowled.
Ewan Cox came on to bowl, replacing Zak, and matched Simon’s 3 wickets, for 15 runs from 7 overs. Skipper, Hayden Cox, brought some pace in to the attack and took the final 3 wickets (3.2 overs 3-4).
High standards in the field resulted in four catches, one run out (orchestrated by Jasper Dennison) and a stumping by keeper Evan Bownes.
Retford succumbed to 54 all out from 21.2 overs.

On another note, it was fantastic to see the investment in junior players from both sides. Giving these youngsters the opportunity to develop is vital to the longevity of recreational cricket.

Thank you to David Bownes for scoring - your help is much appreciated.

Great result for today, let’s keep the momentum going for next week’s visit to Sheffield Sunrisers.
