Clumber Field lose out in Debut Match.
By Owen Jervis
Development team provide test for more experienced opposition
A very exciting first league game went to the wire with Sheffield Transport just edging it in the penultimate over, by 2 wickets
With 7 of our team u16 or younger, development youth over experience was the theme for the day.
Having lost the toss we were inserted and James Butler looked good on debut before unfortunately being run out by John sanderson. We then lost wickets regularly but Josh Sanderson batted brilliantly for 20 overs for his 22, which would have been 25 had he not run 3 short runs!
We continued to lose wickets steadily until Harry came in and hit a cultured 20 and shared a 20 run last wicket stand with Evan.
119 all out, a defendable total if we fielded well
Frem got us off to a great start with 2 wickets in the first over! Game on
Despite tidy spells from Harry, Brandon and Evan we couldn’t break through the 3rd wicket partnership. Then with the score 78-2 Simba got the breakthrough and cue a mini collapse with Brandon getting 3 quick wickets we were back in it.
They were 8 down with needing 19 to win off of 4 overs and scraped home with 7 balls to spare 8 down
It was a great come back, played in good spirits by both teams.
Thanks to the groundsmen for creating a great wicket, and well done to Zak, Harry and Evan for collecting £32 on the collection and the old man for getting a £10 on the scratch card - whilst making sure I won it !!!
Well played Wazza for his heroics behind the stumps, but unfortunately you will feel it tomorrow mate????!
A close and enjoyable game to be part of!
Also big thanks to David who scored and the ladies that made the cakes and also the children that went around selling them. Was a good day to be apart of Clumber Park cricket club!
