We lost the toss, but as they elected to bat we got to field first, as we wanted.
Tom Paintain opened with Matt Hampshire and both bowled well and tight. Matt 5 overs for 11, Tom 6 overs for 24. Michael Edwards (5 overs, 2-15) and Nathan Morley (5 overs, 0-16) took over and continued to keep the runs under control. At drinks the score was 62-2 and things looked good for us. Samodh Nadkarni (5 overs, 0-20) and Noah Marriott (5 overs, 0-24) bowled well after drinks to keep the pressure on. The last pairing was Jack Birch and Isabel Eccles with Tom and Michael coming back on at the end to bowl an over each. Jack (5 overs, 2-26) bowled well and was as solid and reliable as ever. Despite nerves, Isabel also bowled well 3 overs for 23 runs.
Wiseton ended on 164-4 with friend of CPCC Steve Tomlinson bagging himself a 50. Well played Steve.
Unfortunately, we were unable to get to the target, but for a while it looked possible.
Tom Paintain batted well for his 15, as did Jack for his 18 and Michael for his 9. All getting some confidence boosting time at the crease. Samodh Nadkarni (7), Noah Marriott (6) and Isabel Eccles (3) also played and defended well meaning we held out for the full 40 overs and posted a credible 100 with Amulya Nadkarni taking us over the mark. When John Shaw fell to a good catch for 27 it was always going to be a tough ask.
The hosts won by 64 runs, but despite this I was an incredibly proud captain and I think there were plenty of positives, experience and learning for all to take away.
