Sharp fielding, tight bowling and top knocks from John Shaw & Chris Ward secured the 20 points.

Four games in and the 2nd XI are yet to lose the toss. On what was a glorious day they decided to have a bat first, however after the first 10 overs it wasn’t looking like a great decision as we lost three early wickets with not many runs on the board… In came Chris Ward at four and John Shaw at five, which was the turning point! Chris (51) found the middle of the bat with ease before being caught out and John (95) smashed sixes for fun but ultimately fell for an absolutely magnificent & entertaining 95. We finished on a total of 184-9 from the full 40 overs, a fantastic finish to what was a poor start.

Skipper, Darren Edwards, emphasised that if they could good bowl decent lines on that deck then they'd have a great chance. Simon Dean (8 overs, 2-29) and Darren Edwards (8 overs, 1-28) opened the bowling and between them got 3 wickets. Then, the spin duo of Chris Ward (6 overs, 0-21) and Tim Beer (8 overs, 3-26) came on, keeping the runs to a minimum - Tim continued to show great consistency, picking up another 3-fer. However, the game was still in the balance as their opener had his eye in and had just passed the half-centry mark. That was until Tom Paintain entered the bowling attack! In his first over he took the wicket of their opener courtsey of a difficult catch from Michael Edwards that was taken with unbelievable ease. Tom continued to bowl fantastic lines and took another two wickets finishing with great figures of 3-26 from 4 overs. Sherwood's last wicket partnership continued to battle on but the game was finished when David Freeman (2.2 overs, 1-6) took the last wicket, caught behind by Callum Edwards who yet again performed excellently behind the stumps (taking 3 catches in total).

Another 20 points and great team effort all round as the 2nd XI won by 47 runs. Next Saturday, the 2nd XI are in action at Clumber as they host North Wheatley with Leverton's 2nd XI.
