Today the 2nd XI faced top of the league Wadworth, where they won the toss and elected to bat first.
Evan Bownes and Darren Edwards opened our bowling with nice lines, with Darren (8 overs, 1-9) managing to get the breakthrough wicket. At the other end, Evan, got the key wicket and with 16 overs gone, they were 40-ish with two wickets down. More great bowling from Tim Beer (8 overs, 1-17) and Tom Paintain (6 overs, 2-10), who bowled his best spell so far this season. Lee Rodgers was then brought into the attack, bowling very well and taking a well deserved 2-18 from 6 overs. Evan came back for his second spell and finished with great figures of 3-31 from 8 overs. Wadworth were at 80-9, but we couldn’t quite finish them off as they batted all 40 overs and finished 103-9!
At tea, we fancied our chances but our innings was rocked when Evan, Charlie Shelton and Darren all fell leaving us at 17-3. John Shaw (31) batted well to stabilise the innings, including some hefty blows to the boundary. However, Lee Rodgers (12) and Tim Beer (10) were the only others to get in to double figures, as we collapsed to 82 all out - falling 21 runs short.
Next weekend, the 2nd XI are at home again but this time hosting Teversall.
