A fantastic team effort allowed for the 2nd XI to return to winning ways!

We won the toss and elected to bat first on what looked to be a decent track. Without our usual openers and number 3, we were forced to try something different with our batting lineup. However, at 30-5 after 15 overs it wasn’t looking good!
That was until Dan Fotheringham and Tim Beer built up an outstanding partnership of 60+ before Tim fell for a valuable 23. Dan arrived at the crease in the second over, and stayed in until the third to last ball - finishing with a superb (and what turned out to be a match-winning) 52! We finished on 120-9 from our 40 overs, which we were very happy with considering the poor start.

During the tea break, we had to decide who was to open the bowling and who was to keep wicket; we were without all these usual players. Callum Edwards stood up & took on the role of wicket keeper, allowing Darren Edwards and Dan Fotheringham to open the bowling. We knew that if we could get their top-order batsmen out cheaply, we'd stand a good chance of winning this match.
Dan (6 overs, 0-13) bowled well but without reward. Darren, at the other end, got the breakthrough by dismissing their opener LBW. Misterton's captain and main man, Emmingham, came in at number three and hit a couple of nice shots, including a glorious 6 straight down the ground, before he was bowled by Darren. To finish his 8 over spell, Darren got the other opener caught behind - leaving him with top figures of 3-24. The two openers and number three were now out, which was just what we needed and put us off to a great start! Now it was time for Tim Beer and Finlay Allison to take the reins, as they replaced Daz & Dan in the bowling attack. They both bowled with great line and length, resulting in them absolutely ripping through the opposition's middle order and tail. Tim ended up with a fabulous 4-19 off 7.1 and Fin with a great 3-16 off 5. Misterton, all out for 73 from 26.1 overs!

Special mention to Callum, who kept wicket for the first time in senior cricket and did a great job. He claimed 3 catches and conceded just one bye!
We were superb in the field today, especially Darren Ridout, who carried on despite minor injury, and junior Jack Birch, who fielded fantastically well and stopped several boundaries.

The 2nd XI is now back up to 3rd in the league - an unbelievable effort.
Next weekend, they will host Blidworth Colliery Welfare CC's 2nd XI on the Leaping Bar ground in the park.
