It was great for the 2nd XI to get a game in today, at a reduced 37 overs per side.
We won the toss and elected to bowl, which we did well but without much luck as Misterton CC reached 63 without loss after 23 overs. After their allocated 37 overs, Misterton finished at 155-5, with wickets being taken by Callum Edwards (8 overs, 1-26), Evan Bownes (7 overs, 3-45) and our demon death bowler Tom Paintain (3 overs, 1-22)! Our other bowlers all bowled well, but without reward.
Despite losing Matt Lyon (15) and Simon Bingham (6) early on in our innings, after a few good looking strokes, our batting performance started off ok. Steve Sleight, 24 years out of the game, made 12 before being bowled. Charlie Shelton (1) was in and out, allowing for the impressive partnership between Jasper Dennison (32) and Evan Bownes (26), both playing a great variety of shots. Finlay Allison (12) hit a couple of boundaries before being run out, which left Callum Edwards (11*) and Dan Fotheringham (2*) both not out at the crease after the allotted 37 overs. We finished on 128-7, but regardless of falling short by 28 runs Captain, Darren Edwards, was absolutely delighted by the performance! The juniors in the team are getting better and better with each game, and performed very well against an experienced Misterton side, who we're sure will be fighting for the division title.
Next Saturday, we are hoping for better weather conditions as we travel away to Wadworth CC.
