Batting first, after winning the toss, we got off to an excellent start with Ben Tomlinson (20) and Dave Taylor (34) building a solid foundation by setting 66 for the opening wicket partnership. It then became the Dave Beard show for an entertaining hour or so as he treated us to a full array of shots in a lovely knock before the curse of the 80s struck again! James Davies gave great support with a fine 35, while Mark Dean (10) and Mike Cox (11*) added a few in the final overs to see us post a very healthy looking total of 225-6.
We got off to a cracking start in the field when Ben Perkins clean bowled one of their openers when they only had 2 runs on the board. However, that was to be our only success for a while, despite Ben (8 overs, 1-13) and Zak Berridge (7 overs, 0-8) both bowling beautifully. Kiveton reached 61 before Simon Dean (8 overs, 1-34) finally got some reward in his final over when Zak held a catch to dismiss the host's main man Ian Briggs (35). Hayden Cox (7 overs, 1-18) chipped in with a wicket too, before we got 3 in one over! Firstly, Rich Tomlinson did a smart pick up & throw to get a run out, and then we got two in as many balls - one of which was a brilliant diving one-handed catch from Ben P!
Captain, Mark Dean, came on to bowl, picking up 3 wickets with 25 runs off of 5 overs. Then, Ben Tomlinson (5 overs, 1-17) picked up the 8th wicket as Kiveton closed on 125-8 from their 40 overs to give us a resounding 101 run win.
This result makes it 8 wins from 10 games and 4 on the bounce for the 1st XI! A great effort, which puts the team in good stead for their match against top-of-the-table Papplewick & Linby CC next weekend at home.
