Clumber start season with a win
By Owen Jervis
Clumber Skipper Leigh Overton leads 1st XI to maximum points, early wickets for Mark Dean and a Century for Dave Beard
Clumber start the season with 20 points!
On what must of been one of the most pleasant opening days to the season, Clumber 1st team travelled to Harthill. The side was a mixture of youth and experience, with at one end of the age scale, Mark Dean
and the other, making his first team debut, Josh Sanderson
Winning the toss and deciding to bowl, we opened up with Leigh Overton
(0/21)and Ben Perkins
(1/9), Ben bowling especially well and swinging the ball around corners, taking the first wicket of the season. We then entered a spell of bowling and fielding that can best be described as rusty, letting the Harthill batsman score at a rather quicker pace than we would have liked. Slowing the bowling down was the best option which first brought James Hubball (2/43)into the game, bowling 10 overs straight through, not at is best after wintering well, helping to regain some control. Then came the club senior pro Mark Dean
(5/24) who bamboozled the opposition with his repertoire of deliveries. Once James had finished his spell, this allowed Hayden Cox
(1/24) to run in from the next village, bowling well. Hart hill were bowled out for 160.
We started our chase with Deano (6) and Hubball (18) losing Deano with only 7 on the board, bringing Dave Beard
(111) to the crease. Dave batted beautifully taking the game away from Harthill scoring what hopefully will be the first of many centuries this season! Full 20 points for Clumber and we go into next weeks game away at Blidworth hoping for the same!
Thank you to everyone that came along to support the team, it was much appreciated by all of us!
