Clumber 1st XI Lead Div 1 with Another Win

Bridon Burgled for 20 points...

Fresh of the back of a dominant display over WI Cavs, team spirit was high leading into the game at Bridon. Winning my first toss of the year I chose to bat on what always looks a good track.

Seb (62) and Liam (34) set about the Bridon bowling with purpose, establishing an excellent opening partnership of 63 until Liam played all around a ball he could play in his sleep. This brought young Will 'Wee man' Bircumshaw (31) to the crease to partner Seb. A partnership of 58 then built on the great start and we found ourselves in an excellent position to push on a post a good total. Will was dismissed LBW to the experienced Andy Legg but this then brought James to the crease. The runs continued to flow, the two highlights in particular being James' punchy 48, unfortunate to miss out on a maiden CPCC half century, but also Seb's maiden half century for the first team. Playing very unselfishly towards the ends of his innings and an uncharacteristic swipe across the line brought it to a close as he strode off, bat held high to a well earned round of applause. Warren (17), Luke (15) and Chris (2) then cemented our innings with solid late contributions, including a huge 6 from Luke crashing into one of the overlooking house' garage.

After tea, both Tom and Luke set about the Bridon top order in devastating fashion, two wickets in the first two overs had them immediately on the back foot with the two huge scalps including the experienced Roger Wells already back in the hutch at 0-2. A counter attack from Tomlinson and Paul put on 107 for the third wicket, until the combination of a tight spell of bowling from Alex and a devastating over from James got Clumber back in the game with two wickets in as many balls. Wickets continued to flow and it capped of a great day when James picked up his fifth wicket from an outstanding spell of quick bowling. The skipper, Alex and Luke also picked up another wicket in a resounding victory.

Welbeck at home next week should also provide another test for the Rising Clumber Supergiants ?? UTP
