The first merit league will play off for the championship. The other two leagues will play for subsiduary trophies. It is particularly helpful for transporting players and to support them at matches, it really helps the team if we have you cheering for them. If you can help with pre-match set-up, drinks etc it would be much appreciated. If you would like to become involved please contact me, we will need to discuss your role and the need for CRB checks. Thanks John & Mick, Have a Great Season!!! Match Reports Clumber travelled to Retford for their opening game of the 2010 season, thanks to Tony Mingham for managing the game in my absence. Clumber’s strong bowling attack restricted the home side to 220-4 with the wickets shared between Ben De Leso (2) and Charlie Hough and Andy Eason (1 each). Retford bowling responded well taking 6 Clumber wickets but the extra total was their downfall, good contributions from Alex Menzhousen 12 and Matt Parkin 7 secured a win by 6 runs in an exciting end to the game. The older U13 team began their league campaign with an excellent team performance against visitors Whitwell. With batting contributions from all four pairs featuring good positive running between the wickets and sensible attacking shot selection. Batting highlights included Tom Rix (11*), Jack Palfreyman 15 and an attacking and powerful 26* from Will Walker including two sixes through the offside and two well placed fours through square leg. Clumber finishing with a net score of 282 from their allotted 16 overs. Clumber then took to the field in a positive mood and Tom Rix started the superb all round bowling performance by claiming a hat trick in his first over, all clean bowled, finishing with figures of 3-1-3-3. Wickets fell regularly throughout the visitors reply. Jack Palfreyman claiming 3 wickets in his third over, once again with 3 clean bowled dismissals, finishing his spell with 3-2-3-3. Tom Askwith chipped in with 2-0-2-2 taking wickets with consecutive balls, leaping like a salmon to take a catch off his own bowling to claim his second wicket. James Maher (2-0-7-2) and Will Moran (2-0-6-1) where the other Clumber wicket takers. Tidy spells from Archie Bird (2-0-3-0) and Will Walker (2-1-2-0) completed the bowling effort. Stumper Nick "iron chest" Barton performed well behind the stumps only conceding 3 byes and showing tidy glove work. Whitwell finishing with a net score of 172 from their allocation of 16 overs. Clumber first home saw them entertain Blyth, Clumber batting first got off to a really positive start with Matt Parkin 21no and Josh Garlic 9no. With the Blyth attack not bothering the Clumber batsmen and with the middle order batting sensibly they added valuable runs taking Clumber to a good total of 284-2 (274 Nett) In response Blyth struggled from the start with no batsmen dominating, Clumber really then took Blyth’s middle order apart with 6 wickets falling for 6 runs with 2 wickets each to Ben De Leso, Andy Easn and Dom Wass. Only Thorpe showed any resistance with a great 22 no, but Blyth fell short by 52 runs. Everton -v- U13 (B) Everton’s fairly low target was soon set about with the in form Parkin 19 no who in typical style smashed the Everton attack about the park, he was again supported by Garlic 6 no. The middle order added more valuable runs for the loss of only 2 wickets (Sam Hopkinson being the unlucky batsman who faced Everton’s best bowlers) With the game in the bag, stone wall Wass batted very sensibly to see Clumber home in a tense finish for the Clumber coach!!!!!! Harthill -v- U13 (A) Thoresby Colliery -v- U13 (B) Firbeck visited Clumber on a cold evening and once again Clumber delivered a superb all round team performance. Batting first Clumber scored 293 for 4 (net 273), with all four pairs producing good contributions. Tom Rix (18) and Jack Palfreyman (18*) leading the scoring. Clumber's bowling and fielding effort was also very good restricting the visitors to 253 for (net 228) to win by 45 runs. Bowling highlights coming from Jack Palfreyman (3-1-3-2) who clean bowled and tied down the danagerous Marley Alder. Charlie Hough (2-0-6-2) taking two wickets in two balls including a good sharp stumping from Nick Barton. James Maher (2-0-6-1) being the other wicket taker with a catch once again from his own bowling. Batting first Worksop scored 274 for 6 (net 244) on a hard, fast and bouncy track. Clumber wicket-takers being Tom Rix (3-0-17-1) including the wicket of Tim Smith edging to keeper Nick Barton, Jack Palfreyman (3-0-7-1), Ben DeLeso (2-0-5-1), Tom Askwith (2-0-5-1) and Archie Bird (2-0-5-1) who's wicket came via a smart catch from Jack Palfreyman positioned at backward square leg. The other Worksop wicket was the run out of Harry Taylor, with Jack Palfreyman fielding and out running the batsmen at the bowlers end before the run was completed. Clumber's innings started slowly and after eight overs stood on 223/3 (net 208). Third pairing of Jack Palfreyman (21) and Charlie Hough (3*) picked up the run-rate as the light started to fade. The final pair needed a net score of 19 to win at the start of their 4 overs, and Tom Rix (8) and Tom Askwith (5*) worked very hard in difficult batting conditions. Clumber finished on 265/7 at net score of 230, 14 short of victory. The final outing for the U13 A’s in the first stage of this year’s competition saw us travelling to Kiveton Park. Kiveton Park batted first and opener Regan Musgrave started the innings in aggressive style which saw him accrue 37 including a huge six into someone’s kitchen window during an opening partnership of 42. However, Clumber did peg this aggressive start back with two wickets. From this point Clumber really raised their game and limited the Kiveton Park batsmen, particularly the aggressive Cameron Williams with well set field placings. Crucially Kiveton wickets fell regularly with Charlie Hough (3-0-17-1), Tom Askwith (2-0-16-2), James Maher (2-0-8-2), Will Walker (2-0-7-1) and Archie Bird (2-0-14-1) picking up wickets. Jack Palfreyman bowled a controlled spell in overs 14 and 16 finishing with figures of 3-1-5-0. Palfreyman also took 2 catches including a diving catch at mid wicket. James Maher again took another smart catch this time at point. Kiveton Park finished on 301 for 7, a net score of 266. Requiring a net score of 67 to win openers Will Walker (32) including 3 excellent, well struck sixes through the legside and Nick Barton (4) added 36 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. Next pair of Tom Askwith (5*) including a glorious cover drive and Charlie Hough (0*) added 11 more runs without losing any wickets. Leaving Clumber needing 30 more net runs to reach their target. Third pair Jack Palfreyman (18*) and Archie Bird (4*) added another 26 runs without losing any wickets. This left the final pair needing to add 4 runs without losing any wickets to secure victory. Tom Rix (3*) and James Maher (0*) achieved this without any drama to leave Clumber on 283 for 2, a net score of 273 giving a victory of 7 runs with yet another outstanding team performance. Clumber finishing the 1st stage of the competiton with a 4/1 winning record. Ransome & Marles -v- U13s (County Cup) Clumber travelled to Ransome and Marles at Newark for the 1st Round County Cup tie on a lovely early summers evening. Captain Jack Palfreyman won the toss and asked the home side to bat first on a green wicket. Ransome and Marles made a steady start and Clumber bowled well as the home side built a modest score of 78 for 2 wickets from their 20 overs. Clumber wickets where Tom Rix (4-0-15-1) and Archie Bird (1-1-0-1). Clumber travelled yet again this time just down the A60 to Cuckney. Captain Jack Palfreyman again won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first. Clumber bowled and fielded well again restricting the home side to 78 for 4. Bowling highlights coming from Tom Rix (4-0-10-1), Jack Palfreyman (4-0-10-2) and Archie Bird's off spin (4-0-10-1). Chasing 79 to win at just under 4 an over on a big playing area shouldn't have been too problematic. Clumber lost their first wicket with the score on 11 to the first ball of the second over. Will Walker (9) was the second wicket with the score on 20. Hero of the last round of the County Cup Ben Tomlinson (25) and skipper Jack Palfreyman (11) then added 22 for the third wicket before Palfreyman was out caught and bowled. Matt Parkin (15) and Tomlinson then added a further 32 runs before Tomlinson was clean bowled. This left Clumber needing 5 runs to win with 5 overs remaining and 6 wickets in hand. The game then took a dramatic turn as wickets fell at an alarming rate and last pair of Nick Barton and Andy Eason found themselves at the crease still needing 3 runs. Andy Eason hooked the third ball which was called a no ball of the 19th over to the boundary to give Clumber a victory by the narrowest of margins in a tense atomosphere and give Clumber the right to host Kimberley in the Northern Nottinghamshire County Cup Final. U13s -v- Kimberley (County Cup) The U13s hosted Kimberley on a beautiful evening in the County Cup Semi-Final, Clumber's first home draw of the competition. Winning the toss Clumber asked Kimberley to bat first on a dry and dusty worn track. Kimberley proved to be an experienced side taking singles almost at will and capitalising on some average fielding. Both openers (Kulkarni and Blatherwick) scoring 30 and retiring due to County Cup rules. Platts (25) was clean bowled by Tom Rix (4-0-26-1) and Ratcliffe was unbeaten on 14 when the visitors innings closed on 117 for 1 after 20 overs. Other Clumber bowling figures were: Menhausen 4-0-16-0, Palfreyman 4-0-16-0, Bird 3-0-18-0, Walker 1-0-8-0, Askwith 3-0-16-0 and Deiso 1-0-7-0. Chasing an achievable 118 to win Clumber lost their first three wickets with only 9 scored. Tom Rix (8) and Jack Palfreyman and then Alex Menhausen (8) and Palfreyman took the score to 56 with six overs remaining. Palfreyman those innings had included 5 fours was next to be dismissed for 29 caught at mid-wicket trying to push the score. Clumber's innings closed on 66 for 9 giving Kimberley victory by 51 runs. The Clumber A’s returned to league cricket in emphatic style following their exit from the County Cup earlier in the week. Home side Dinnington B batted first and struggled against some top rate fielding and bowling. Tom Rix produced an excellent run out, Archie Bird keeping wicket took a magnificent diving catch in front of the stumps on the legside, the ground fielding was vastly improved and Ben Tomlinson and Jack Palfeyman also produced quality catches. The bowling was good with Ben Deiso taking a fine hat-trick to finish with 3-0-9-5. Jack Palfreyman clean bowled his 4 victims to finish with 3-0-4-4, the other wicket taker was Tom Rix 3-0-12-2 who bowled a number of good in-swingers. The other Clumber bowlers also bowled accurately: Ben Tomlinson 3-1-8-0, James Maher 2-0-6-0 and Toby Findlay 2-0-7-0. The Dinnington B innings closed on a net score of 104 for 12. This match saw us on the road again this time at Costhorpe to meet Firbeck. The home side batted first and scored a respectable net score of 262 for 7 on a ground with small boundaries either side of the wicket. Clumber wicket-takers where Jack Palfreyman 3-0-15-3, Ben Tomlinson 2-0-13-1, Charlie Hough 2-1-7-1 and James Maher 2-0-14-1. Ben Tomlinson and Archie Bird also combined to produce a good run out. |
