CPCC 4th XI lose at Sherwood in close game.
Young Clumber side compete well against strong Sherwood team.
The 4ths put in an excellent team performance at Sherwood Colliery II and nearly pulled off an unlikely victory.
Having won the toss we decided to bat with a team consisting of 8 under 15’s, and were soon in deep trouble! In form James Davies
fell first ball of the game and we were soon 20-4!! Tim Beer
and Hayden Cox
dug in for an hour or so but fell in quick succession to leave us 58-6.
Zak Berridge came in and immediately wore one on the throat and was shaken up for a while, but he regained composure and got a crucial and patient 16 whilst I carved away, creatively at the other end.
and I shared an other good stand and we set up 140 which represented a good recovery and something we could defend.
Knowing that we had a very young and inexperienced team, we would need to concentrate and focus as a team in the very warm conditions if were to stand a chance.
U13’s Zak and Evan opened up and were unlucky not to break through so we turned to spinners Harry and Neil Tilley
who slowed the run rate and got early key - Harry taking 1-38 in 13 excellent overs and Neil Tilley
taking 2-24 in 9- both bowled really well.
At this point the game was in the balance and I was very proud of the excellent fielding and togetherness in the field which really helped to keep the pressure on Sherwood.
bowled a fiery spell 2-12 in 6 and Ben Tomlinson and Zak were bowling towards the end striving to get the remaining 3 wickets required to win. With just 2 needed Josh Sanderson
took a stunning running catch at deep mid wicket off Ben, but they scraped home with 2 wickets to spare.
From 20-4 and 53-6 it was a fantastic testament to the fighting spirit of such a young team.
Brilliant fielding by Ben, Jasper, Josh. An incredible running catch by Jimmie D.
Controlled bowling by Harry, Zak, Evan and Hayden.
Really brave batting from Zak and Evan.
The best thing about today was 8 x 13 / 14 /15 year olds behaved impeccably and fought for each other and learnt a lot about teamwork and focus on a hot day.
Tim, Neil and I will no doubt be very pleased to have been part of the game and reflected on the rapid pace of development these boys are demonstrating!!
