1st XI Come 2nd at Home to Milton CC

Our 1st XI won the toss and put Milton CC in to bat first. Zak Berridge, once again, led from the front, striking in his first over! Unfortunately for us, that was the only success we had for a while as Milton reached 71 before we struck again. We kept plugging away and, after the 40 overs, restricted Milton to 185-8.
29 of our overs were bowled by our teenage seam quartet and they all performed brilliantly today. Zak (8 overs, 3-22) was very impressive again, Hayden Cox (7 overs, 1-27) was a welcome return to the line-up following injury, Jasper Dennison (7 overs, 1-28) bowled a nice spell, and Ben Tomlinson (7 overs, 0-34) bowled well but without reward. The other three wickets came from Ed Foulds (6 overs, 1-35), Mark Dean (4 overs, 1-17) and a great run out from Ed.

In response, our opening batsmen got us off to a brilliant start once again. Led by Simon Bingham (29), who batted serenely and top-scored today, and solidly supported by Ed Foulds (17), they took us past the 50 mark for the 3rd time in 4 games! A great effort once again for our opening stand. After they both fell with the score at 55, we struggled to build new partnerships. In fairness, Milton CC bowled very well and gave us few bad balls to punish. Ben Tomlinson (25*) batted really nicely late on, which was great to see. However, we fell short by 37 runs, as we closed on 149-8. Despite the loss, we were still able to pick up 8 bonus points.

Next weekend, the 1st XI travel away to Farnsfield CC.
