1. OUTDOOR NET PROCEDURE

The following procedure is necessary to ensure the new nets are used on an equitable basis between all age groups, and individual club members. Also to ensure that appropriate health and safety considerations are recognised and enforced.

1. BOOKING

A booking system is to be introduced allowing hour slots, per net, to be reserved at available times on a team basis or individual member basis. This form will be in the pavilion and entries will be made for available times on a first come first served rule. Nets will not be available when a game is in progress.

The booking form will blank out official club practice sessions at agreed times and evening / weekend matches to ensure individual are aware of these, they are to be confirmed as: Friday evening / junior practice and Thursday evening / senior practice. Both 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm.

There will be no charge for internal senior or junior squad use.

Individual members will be invited to make a contribution to club funds if they use the facilities privately.

Outside hire will be available at a suggested cost of £ 10 per net per hour.

2. SAFETY

It is the responsibility of the senior player, parent or coach booking the net to observe the published net safety guidelines. These are to be displayed on the side of the score box and issued to al members in their 2004 Members Pack.

It is proposed to install a further pole and net down the middle of the nets to give added protection to users and to install a stop net to protect others using the outfield.

Spectators close to the net area will be asked to observe signage warning of the dangers.

Net Users will be encouraged to park on the main road side of the pavilion so they are not walking past the net area as often.

A security system is to be developed to ensure the nets are only used by authorised players. This will probably involve use of a locked bar at the end of both nets. Keys will be issued to all coaches and captains, a key will also be kept in the pavilion.

A first aid kit and set of emergency contact phone numbers will be kept in the pavilion at all times.

3. FRIDAY NIGHT PRACTICE

It is important we allocate facilities and specific outfield areas for a Friday evening practice to make sure that all juniors practice in safety and share the new practice areas. Consideration also has to be given to wicket preparation.

• Under 11/12/13/15 will share the net area for hardball practice week by week.
• The designated fielding area will be marked to ensure it does not encroach on the Acorns.
• The artificial on the square will only be used for hard ball practice when a net cage is available.
• A stop net will be used for the artificial and the direction of play will be towards the pavilion.
• At all times consideration must be given to wicket preparation by the groundsman.
• No junior games will be played at home on a Thursday or Friday evening without permission from the committee.

2. GUIDELINES FOR COACHES

“The successful coach invests more in the well -being and interests of the players than in the win-loss record”

The following are guidelines for all Coaches at Clumber Park Cricket Club in 2004.

• Be reasonable in your demands on children’s and young people’s time, energy and enthusiasm – they need other interests.

• Children play for fun and enjoyment and winning is only a part of this. Never ridicule or shout at children for making mistakes or losing a match.

• Make a personal commitment to keep yourself informed on sound coaching principles and the principles of children’s growth and development.

• Group players according to age, height, skill and physical maturity where appropriate.

• The scheduling and length of practice sessions and competitions should take into consideration the maturity level of the children.

• Avoid “over playing “talented players. The “just average” players need and deserve equal time. Be sensitive to the less talented.

• Ensure equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and ability of the players.

• Teach all players that the rules of the game are mutual agreements which no one should evade or break.

• Develop respect for the ability of opponents, as well as for the judgement of officials and opposing coaches.

“Children develop differently, at different times and react differently to the same pressures”

The following are guidelines for all parents of junior cricketers at Clumber Park Cricket Club.
