| Clumber “The Next Generation”
Next Generation Update - 2008 Last year's brochure had an update with a picture of me standing in a field thinking to myself “will we ever get this project finished and play cricket here?” The answer is yes we have, we have now become one of only a handful of cricket club grounds that have two pitches. The new field and square is now complete and will become one of the most attractive of settings in which to play cricket in the county within a very short time. The new ground will allow us to focus all our playing activity in the park and build the club ethos and identity even more strongly, a vital part of developing any successful sports club. We are striving to build one strong cricket club, providing cricket for all from the youngest members age 6+ to the oldest age X +! We will start playing a number of junior games and all Third XI and Fourth XI team cricket on the new ground this season. This will allow us to spend more time on the main ground, commencing a programme of further pitch and outfield improvements on it over the next few years, also the main pavilion is due to be re-thatched this coming summer so we really are making progress. The new development has largely been self funded; huge thanks go to all members and friends who have contributed. The majority of the work has been done by club members led by Peter Quartermaine and Mick Hampson to whom we all owe a tremendous debt. The temporary pavilions are now up and running and we still hope to get ECB funding for a larger more permanent structure in the near future. As an ECB focus club we are indebted to out county board, Nottinghamshire C.C.C. for their help and support. Grassroots investment is vital if the aspirations of the county and national game are to be achieved, the next Botham has to start his playing career somewhere, why not Clumber Park! Thanks also go to our landlord, The National Trust, for working with us so constructively to plan and enact the development and to Will Pringle for releasing his farm land. Support has also been vital from The ECB, Lords Taverners and Bridgebank plc. as well as from all our other sponsors, without whom we would not be able to have completed the development. The ground is to be dedicated to the memory of Adam Booth, a fantastically talented young Clumber cricketer who lost his life in 2005. I hope all who play on it strive to emulate the approach to the game he exhibited in his all too short cricket career. We plan an opening event later in the summer and will of course let you all know when this is happening. Please walk over to the new ground, bring a deckchair and watch the game on what I think is the second most beautiful cricket ground in the county! Next Generation Project April 2006 Update For those of you new to Clumber let me tell you about our ambitious ‘Next Generation Project’ We have grown rapidly as a club in the last few years and have outgrown our facilities. We have four senior teams on Saturdays, two on Sundays and eight junior sides playing at various times of the week, all this on one ground! Negotiations for the site are well advanced and our landlord, The National Trust is actively supporting our project. There are many logistical, legal and planning hurdles yet to be jumped but progress is being made, even accelerating. We have started a reserve fund to contribute to the overall cost and hope to generate grant aid from a number of different sources. The total budget for the new ground and the existing pavilion extension is circa £150,000 so we have a long way to go. We still hope to have the facility ready for junior cricket in 2007 and senior cricket in 2008, it would help if a member or friend of the club won the lottery! This project is the last part of the plans we enacted to develop a cricket club in Clumber that will stand the test of time, be financially sound and provide facilities for cricket to be played, taught, viewed and enjoyed for the next hundred years. If you are able to help this project in any way, however small. please do not hesitate to contact me or one of may colleagues as shown below. We are passionate about cricket in Clumber and the successful completion of the ‘Next Generation Project’ will secure our future for years to come. Michael Beard Chairman, Clumber Park CC The Next Generation Project Team Mr M Beard 01909 485589 Update April 2005 In the last few years we have achieved much, however there remains a lot still to do. We continue with our ambitious plans to develop the club facilities further with a new second ground and extension to our existing pavilion. All we need now is the money!!! We now have more qualified coaches than ever, to cater for the growing number of juniors in all the club age groups. Our 2005 junior programme is more ambitious than ever. Our new perimeter fence has tied up the appearance of the ground and given it much improved definition as well as keeping the rabbits off. Huge thanks go to all those people from inside and outside the club who made it possible to achieve this plan a year ahead of schedule.
I hope those of you reading this who visit us regularly will appreciate the developments that have taken place in the physical structure of the club over the last year. The new artificial wicket on the square and the double practice net facility has enabled us to provide vastly improved playing and training facilities. These were completed in mid 2003 and have already been well used. Their development would not have been possible without the generous funding received from the following agencies: WREN, The Waste Recycling Energy Network. The Lords Taverners. Nottinghamshire Community Foundation. National Lottery “Awards for All” Our thanks go to each of them as well as to our spectators, whose generous contributions have helped us contribute to the overall project cost. Thanks are also due to Sodexho Land Technology for their first class work in installing both new facilities. We also completed, after a few trials and tribulations the new scorebox. This was entirely funded from within the club and thanks go to all those members who worked so hard to have it up and running in time for the start of last season. What is next I hear you ask? Much has yet to be done; the three main projects we aim to achieve next are as follows. 1. Pavilion Extension We now have the required permissions to extend the pavilion to the rear to increase the changing area and put in showers and new loos. We also hope to have electricity installed! The overall project cost of this is likely to in excess of £ 80,000 so we are hoping for either a very magnanimous benefactor or a significant windfall from The National Lottery; we are hard at work with the later. 2. New Boundary Fence We partially replaced some of the surrounding fence near the new nets and pavilion last season bur ran out of cash to do the rest. To complete the full ground is going to cost in excess of £ 5,000. It is important work not only to improve the aesthetics of the ground and to keep the rabbits out but also to improve the safety of spectators and security of players, especially juniors. Thanks go to Alan Frogget for his work done last year. If you would like to sponsor a section of new fence please let us know. 3. New Ground This is by far our most ambitious plan. We are now providing so much cricket for seniors and more especially juniors that we are renting a second ground in Worksop. We would very much like to develop another cricket pitch in Clumber close to our existing facility. This will give us cost benefits as well as focusing all our activities in one place. We are in the early stages of discussion with the National Trust and hope for a favourable response to our proposal. Mike Beard.
