CLUMBER PARK CRICKET CLUB
4th XI FIXTURES 2010
BASSETLAW & DISTRICT CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION 8
This season we will see another crop youngsters coming through the system and making it into 4th XI cricket. Its a credit to the coaching staff we have here at Clumber in their continuing strive in preparing our talented juniors for league cricket, and we look forward to seeing them develop and meet the challenges ahead in 2010. It will be difficult in achieving the same high standards as last season, but I’m sure the lads will be up for it and I can’t wait for the season to start.

Glapwell III -v- 4th XI
When Clumber Park 4th XI travelled to Glapwell on Bank Holiday Monday, not only did they record a welcome win, but one of their young players scored his maiden century. Having won the toss Clumber elected to field, and early wickets from O. Morris (3-37) saw the home side struggling at 31-3. A stand of 79 from D.Murphy and C. Smith steadied the innings, but then M.Shepherd (3-31) struck with a dozen overs left, and fine tight bowling in the final overs by Morris and E.Tilley (2-34) meant that Glapwell ended on 199-8.
Clumber openers C.Dykes and M.Wheatley survived some early scares to put on 41. Wheatley was then accompanied by E.Tilley, M.Baker and more significantly M.Shepherd – who hit two enormous sixes in his bright and brisk 34- on his way to his maiden century. This left T.Mingham and D.Shepherd to see out the remaining 20 runs to secure victory by 4 wickets. A fine team victory and many congratulations to Matthew on his “ton”!
4th XI -v- Ransome & Marles III
Clumber won the toss and elected to bat first on a used pitch in the park. Robin Wilde returning to league cricket (20) and Tim Foulds (18) put on 43 for the first wicket. Jon Palfreyman (24) and young debutant Will Walker (24) added 49 for the fourth wicket as the home team score stood at 95 for 4. Clumber then lost wickets too regularly and where dismissed for 101 after 42 overs. Veteran Colin Lambert bowling an incredible unchanged spell of 13-10-4-6 aided by J Mathysz with 3-32.
After tea Clumber came out to bowl in positive mood even though they only had just 100 runs to defend. Callum Rutherford (1-23) took an early vital wicket, but Bacon (19) and Hawkins (4) added 28 for the 2nd wicket before the later was caught off the impressive spin bowling of Tim Foulds. Wickets now fell regularly and the fielding was good as Foulds (4-12) from 13 overs and Matt Lyon (3-18) bowled out the middle order. The visitors then rallied with Lambert (12) and Freehely (17*) adding 41 for the ninth wicket. Young seamer Jack Palfreyman (2-17) was asked to come back for his second spell with the visitors just 12 runs short of their target with two wickets standing. Palfreyman obliged clean bowling the last two batsmen in one over, giving Clumber victory by 12 runs in a low scoring but close game.
